ARTS INTERNATIONAL HEADQUARTERS HANRAHAN MEYERS ARCHITECTS
Arts International is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to connect American artists with other countries, and to bring artists from other countries to the U.S.. The AI Gallery and Headquarters, located in Manhattan’s Flatiron District and designed by hanrahanMeyers architects, merges architecture, art and light into a unified spatial experience. At the AI Headquarters, hMa took a simple 12,000 square foot loft space and created a defining statement about the organization’s mission in the arts. hMa’s Headquarters for AI focuses around a central 9,000 square foot gallery.

The edge of the AI gallery is defined by five eight foot by twelve foot maple rectangles that function as sculptural windows between the administrative offices and the Gallery. Floating within the gallery is a conference room that appears as an abstract, rectangular box. The box can be opened up and changed into a series of floating planes. The conference room is a simple box with a free-standing maple wall supporting a grid of blackened steel boxes that serve as book cases. Open, the conference room is a public focal point that can be used as a stage for public conferences or, alternatively, as part of the gallery to showcase art.

hMa collaborates with several New York artists and has featured the work of Bruce Pearson, Michael Schumacher, and others in their New York office and in their projects. In April hMa will showcase Joe Amhrein’s paintings and Susan Swenson’s writings as part of the firm’s ongoing collaboration with the arts.

Jaime,
We don't have a book listing our sound collaborations, unfortunately. However, you can purchase our other book, 'designing with light' which shows hMa's use of natural light in our projects.
